GRAMMY Camp LA 2013As you know, I attended this camp, and for journalism and video editing, not for music-making. But GC had it's fair share of prodigies from all of the nation, and a few campers from Japan and England. Only one of the combos has their music on YouTube, but it's still fun to listen to, so here are the videos of the band, Minna. Isn't that amazing!

Post Quote Why do so many people like pop music? When you are partaking in an activity that allows for listening to music, then you have to decide what best works for you. People usually enjoy listening to music that is happier, and leaves them in a more positive mood than when they started. This generally rules out genres such as metal core, melodic death metal, punk, post-grunge, and many others of that variety. There are many elements to the heavier rock music that causes people to shy away from it.
Talking to many different people provided similar opinions. Noah Kovalick states that heavier rock genres are “different styles that are difficult to really understand.” Kennedy Lykken has a similar opinion, stating that the vocals and screaming of metal genres are difficult to understand, making the music not nearly as pleasing to the ears. Kovalick states that people enjoy music that makes them happy and that harder rock ‘n’ roll leaves you very sad. Colby Benson, songwriter, agrees with Kovalick, saying than harder genres are “rough” and “feel angry.” People prefer music that you can dance to, as well. Sabrina Elam says that R & B is great because she can “feel their words, can dance with them” and that heavy rock genres aren’t as fun to listen to because you “can’t feel their music.” Pop type music is a much more upbeat genre that people enjoy so much more. Pavlina Osta says that when she is not in a good mood she will “listen to it and it will make me happy,” and that pop music is inspirational. These aspects create a very likeable and popular genre. Hard rock music does not have a very large fan base. People do not like it because the vocals are not pleasing and, according to David Li, it “sounds too much like it’s just all loud.” These are the main differences between the two types of music that divides people in taste. The culture of heavy rock music is often vulgar, hectic, or crazy. It has the negative reputation of having tattoo adorned and bodily pierced, drunk fans. In concerts, people often mosh, crowd surf, and smoke illicit substances. Surprisingly, this does not turn people away from the music at all. Elam says cultural tendencies don’t matter because “rappers are the same, expressing how they feel” in a different way, and that even though she would never go to a heavy rock concert, she understands the culture. Lykken agrees, saying that the culture of the music is the way those people embrace them. Osta says that you can do “whatever you want with your life,” even if they choose to decorate their bodies with piercings and tattoos and beat each other up at concerts. Most people do not have a problem with the culture of musicians. There are distinct differences between pop genres and heavy rock genres both in the music styles and the culture. Listeners are more often deterred from hard rock genres because of the style differences than by the culture. All people mentioned are members of GRAMMY Camp LA 2013. Look forward to a new CHECK IT OUT!!! most Thursdays! Post Quote There are lots of festivals in California around this time, and due to this, everybody is performing here. Now. Which of course is totally crazy! I have high school (I be the Freshmeat! help...!) starting the day after a Black Sabbath concert and lots of concerts scheduled right after football games (I'm in the marching band :). Not to mention the fact that I need to do lots of work around the house so I have enough $$$$$ for all the band shirts I NEEEED.
Let's take a look at all the concerts I'll be attending... September 3rd- Black Sabbath @ The Sports Arena September 8th- Sunflower Dead and more @ Petie's Place September 12th- Hunter Valentine @ Echoplex September 14th- Avenged Sevenfold, Volbeat, HIM, Halestorm, Device, and All That Remains @ Chula Vista, Sleep Train Amphitheatre, Operation Kick Ass Festival September 16th- Volbeat, HIM, and All That Remains @ The Hollywood Palladium September 18th- Halestorm (and Device...?) @ The Wiltern September 19th- VIZA @ The Viper Room (21+ show, so DAN will be going) September 24th- Scorpion Child and Gypsy Hawk @ The Roxy September 28th- Bullet For My Valentine, Black Veil Brides, and Stars In Stereo @ Club Nokia That's a lot in one month! Wish me luck!
